Emily Dickinson: Poetry for Young People

Happy National Poetry Month! Today, I’m sharing poems from Ms. Emily Dickinson in a lovely edition of Poetry for Young People. Edited by Frances Schoonmaker Bolin & Illustrated by Chi Chung.

I hope you enjoyed watching & listening to my readings of Ms. Dickinson’s poems. She wrote about ordinary life in extraordinary, imaginative ways! Bringing light to life, I love the hope in her poems. Did they inspire you to go find and read poems on your own or to your children? I hope so. Maybe they will even stir you to write your own poems. 🙂

Thank you for stopping by Space to Dream and I wish you a wonderful spring day! -Stacie

Welcome Spring!

Spring is upon us! I hope you are celebrating by soaking in the beautiful sights, sounds & smells of nature around you. Here is another poem from my collection, Spring Awakening: Poems.

Happy Spring! My photo – taken on a lakefront morning walk.

Spring Afternoon

Quiet birds chitter-chattering

leaves rustling, trees swaying gently

fat white clouds moving, drifting across the soft blue sky.

A wind catches my papers, blowing them across

freshly mown grass, the scent of it

heavy in the warm air.

Bright pink flowers blooming

a small green lizard climbing the chair

next to mine, creeping fast.

A breeze blows the empty swings

awaiting children

their sounds of laughter, squeals of delight

filling the April air

when the yellow school bus

arrives home.

Irish Rose

Today, I’ve posted a prose poem on Wattpad to celebrate my love of Ireland – its beauty, romance & song. As a dreamer, poet & singer I feel I’ve always been Irish in my heart.

Here is the link to ‘Irish Rose’ on Wattpad. Wattpad is a growing digital community of writers & readers who share their work for free. Irish Rose is also published in my collection, Space to Dream: Poems.

You can also listen to Irish Rose on Soundcloud, where I love to share my poems spoken aloud: Irish Rose: Spoken Word

Erin Go Bragh! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Celebrate the love of the Irish. Thanks for stopping by Space to Dream. Have a wonderful weekend.

P.S. Here’s a recording of the beautiful Irish song Danny Boy that I’ve posted before – but will share it again for St. Patty’s Day. It’s from my college days at Illinois State University, where I sang with the Concert Choir & Madrigal Singers. Yes, I’m the really short soprano next to the really tall tenor in the middle. 🙂
