One year ago today, I took the plunge into authorhood & published my first work of fiction, my poetry book Space to Dream. March 16th marks not only my own birthday, but also the day of a dream realized.
I have been a writer nearly all my life, but last March 16 I began sharing my passion — here on this blog, on social media, out loud to my friends, family & total strangers. This was a daunting step to take, as it feels a bit like jumping off a cliff into a wide sea that may either welcome you with calm, warm waters or rebuff you with icy waves.
A year later, I am thankful to those who’ve supported me in my writing journey and encouraged me to do what I love. I’m grateful for each new reader that encounters my writing, and hopeful that I’ll be doing this for a long, long time to come.
Happy Birthday, Space to Dream! What better way to celebrate than with book mail? I can’t wait to share these with readers.
Today it feels apt to share a poem that speaks to the season which has sprung around us. Though it is quite a chilly, crisp day by southern Louisiana standards; it is sunny outside my window, and I see blooms on the bushes and hear birds chirping. So, the awakening of spring has begun…

I see her in a pink sparkle haze
floating among the trees
her jellied wings
flexing in and out
as if in water
I reach to touch a wing
my fingers stretched outward
into the sweetened air
hovering ’round her
she hangs as if suspended, unmoving
her wings opening wide
to reveal diamonds
they fall into my hand
like gold from a leprechaun
raining beautiful trinkets
and little pink sparkles
from her wings
as she delicately
